Grout Cleaning And The Equipment You Need
Any type of tiles that we might have at home or office, we certainly need the floor to be free of dirt after the installation of tiles. Now that’s a job which is almost as difficult as laying the floor itself. Grout is a cement-based compound used to install the tiles. It fills the gaps that are naturally created between the tiles during the process of installation. But these little pores in the grout attract dirt and over a period of time the joints on the floor tiles become very dull and black. Despite our constantly cleaning the floor to maintain it in top condition, there is hardly anything we can do about the discolored grout.

Cleaning grout is a very specific job and something that many cleaning contractors are unable to do execute to the desired level of satisfaction. The main reason is that the equipment required for cleaning grout is very different from the other kinds of cleaning equipment used at home. This cleaning essentially requires a deck brush with fine bristles. These bristles need to be very hard so as to remove the dirt stuck in the grout, yet they need to be soft at the same time and not cause any damage to the installation and finishing of the flooring.
The other important grout cleaning equipment is a hand held power scrubber. This is a mechanical version of the deck brush and is usually provided with a rotary head. The bristles enter the grout and throw out the dirt and other materials trapped in them. Hand held power scrubbers have a long handle for convenient of operation without causing any undue strain on your back.
The next level of equipment comprises of a low speed floor maintainer that works at a speed of about 200 rotations per minute. Truly speaking a commercial floor maintainer should have speeds of up to 2000 RPM. Getting a flooring contractor with a low speed floor maintainer isn’t really difficult, and that should suffice for most of the grout problems that we generally encounter.
However, if the floors have been completely neglected for many years at a stretch, the problem could be very severe and their cleaning would necessitate the use of a motor scrubber. This is a highly specialized machine and is specifically designed for being used by professional grout cleaning agencies.
Thankfully, these days we have suitable machine for removing and cleaning the most stubborn grout and thus afford to have shining new floors.
